Oliver and Alexander Peya, the No. 9 seeds, suffered defeat at the hands of Victor Hanescu and Oliver Rochus in the first round at the Australian Open. They lost 7-6(4), 4-6, 7-5 in two hours and 39 minutes.
Oliver has played in Melbourne six times and his best showing was reaching the semi-finals in 2009 (partnering Lukasz Kubot). Last year he reached the quarter-finals (p. Kubot).
In mixed doubles, Oliver teams up with Nuria Llagostera Vives of Spain. In their first match they will play Iveta Benesova and Jurgen Melzer.
